5 Top World Cup Hairstyle

1) Carlos Valderrama - (1990, 1994, 1998)

About as subtle as a sledgehammer, Valderrama's gigantic mop dominated three World Cups and he was still seen sporting it in Germany 2006. His battles for the comb with team-mate and mop head Rene Higuita remain the stuff of legend.

El Pipe combined his blonde frizz with a thin moustache which made him a dead ringer for a South American Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy fame. So famous was his hairstyle that it's decked out in gold on his 22 foot tall statue in his homeland.

2) Roberto Baggio (1994)Il Divin Codino dragged Italy kicking and screaming to the final of USA '94 sporting the finest ponytail known to man complete with individual braids and beads. It was a wonder nobody tried to pull it to slow the great man down. Taribo West eat your heart out.
3) Ronaldo (2002)

Asking for a Brazilian doesn't always work out as Ronaldo was left with a little island of hair at the front of his temple. Looking ridiculous didn't make much difference as the legend notched up a brace in the final before tracking down his barber to finish the job.

4) Christian Ziege (2002)

German efficiency meets Taxi Driver. Ziege went the extra step of dyeing his mohican in the colours of his national flag. He must be saying, 'You talkin' to me?' in this picture.

5) The Entire Romania Team (1998)

Looking like a line-up from a zombie movie the Romanians took to the field against Tunisia all sporting identical bleached hairstyles. Even coach Anghel Iordanescu got in on the act by getting a buzz cut but hid it under a baseball cap.

English pundit Jimmy Hill said it would help Gheorghe Hagi's men pick each other out better, which prompted David Ginola to laugh hysterically. Romania were sent packing by Croatia in the next round. Proof perhaps that blondes don't always have more fun.
